Abstrakty

W artykule skoncentrowano rozważania wokół ekonomicznych skutków produkcji roślin genetycznie zmodyfikowanych na sektor rolno-spożywczy na podstawie doświadczeń wybranych krajów, głównie Stanów Zjednoczonych. Omówiono rozwój upraw roślin genetycznie modyfikowanych, wpływ rozwoju tych roślin na producentów rolnych, rolę korporacji biotechnologicznych w rozwoju rolnictwa genetycznego oraz podejście władz i społeczeństwa do żywności genetycznie modyfikowanej.

This paper presents the extent of and the main reasons for fast developments of Genetically Modified crops which occured in the mid-nineties, mainly in North America. The special emphasis was on underlying economic issues which are of direct interest for the agri-food sector. Author shows how fast and to what extent sowings of GM crops have developed, analyses economic reasons which explain the rapid adoption of GM crops by farmers and indicates the consequences of citizen consumer reactions for GM food.
