Abstrakty

W artykule przedstawiono teoretyczne aspekty unii ekonomicznej i monetarnej (walutowej) oraz omówiono jej wpływ na rozwój gospodarczy. Zaprezentowano kraje dominujące i kraje peryferyjne Unii Ekonomicznej i Monetarnej oraz sytuację tych drugich na tle sytuacji gospodarczej całej Unii Europejskiej pod względem PKB, stopy bezrobocia, poziomu inflacji, wysokości deficytu budżetowego, itp.

The paper deals with selected aspects of positive and negative impact of integration processes within the EMU on economic development of periphery countries. Processes of economic integration within EMU create conditions for economic development of each member-country. Generally, those conditions stimulate economic development. But those processes can also create barriers for economic development and the differences in development between periphery countries may be deeper in the future. Those negative factors embrace negative localization effect and asymmetric economic shocks. Periphery countries are important part of common currency area - Euroland. But in the light of research, good macroeconomic results connected to convergence process may be not constant, because it is result not real convergence but government's activity in the economic policy area. There are no also correlations between economic shocks in periphery countries and core countries. It is danger for economic stability in periphery countries. It concern especially less developed countries of EMU (Greece, Portugal, Spain). (original abstract)
