Abstrakty

Celem artykułu jest odpowiedź na pytanie, czy koncepcja Amartyi Kumar Sena ludzkich możliwości jest formą intuicjonizmu, czy tylko posiada przez nas intuicja przesądza o tym, że należy podjąć raczej to, a nie inne działanie. Niniejszy artykuł jest próbą rozstrzygnięcia tego, co stanowi o normatywnej sile (o tym, co powinienem) zaproponowanej przez Sena koncepcji ludzkich możliwości. Charakter koncepcji Sena ukierunkowanej na ludzkie możliwości dobrze oddany jest za pomocą zaproponowanej przez Davida Rossa pluralistycznej struktury obowiązków prima facie.

The article aims to answer the question of whether the Sen's concept of human capabilities is a form of intuitionism, and what, beyond intuition, normativity is based on in Sen's philosophy. The starting point of the article is Sirkku Hellsten's assertion that Sen's capability approach is a form of intuitionism. In analysing the sequence of income egalitarianism, classical utilitarianism and the concept of the quality of life as possible foundations for normativity, we reach the conclusion that the concern with human rights and freedom in Sen's philosophy has normative force. The true freedom and rights which people can enjoy remain conditioned by factors such as income, resources, the social environment, etc. Therefore, in this particular situation the role of intuition is to balance the importance of each of these factors. Discourse in social life fulfils a similar role to that which intuition plays in private life. The pluralistic nature of Sen's capability approach is expressed well by David Ross' prima facie obligations. Just as Ross names a set of prima facie obligations, Sen gives instructions on what, beyond intuition, should be especially heeded when a moral evaluation is carried out. (original abstract)
