Based on an approach of time series, in the present work we analyzed the behaviour of the unemployment rate for a sample of thirteen European countries during the period 1984Q1 to 2005Q1. Starting from stochastic and β-convergence concepts of Carlino and Mills (1993) and using the methodo- logy of Tomljanovich and Vogelsang (2002) it has been observed that there has taken place a convergence process in the majority of European unemployment rates. This process has become more intense since 1993. (original abstract)
