Contemporary directions of development policy in the context of geographical structure of aid allocation, are presented in this article on the example of France. France, one of the main aid donors, has undertaken a reform of its development policy in order to cease the ancient type of relationships with the developing countries -its former colonies. The purpose of this paper is to describe the mechanism used in France to provide development assistance and to verify weather the geographical structure of French development assistance has been changed and is compatible with the declared purposes and goals of aid. In order to check accuracy of compliance of undertaken measures with the declared strategy it was analysed which regions and countries were main recipients of the French aid in the years 1996-2006. Attention has also been paid to the level of development of the recipient countries. (original abstract)
