Szczegółowo scharakteryzowano dane dotyczące stanu i struktury ludności Zachełmia (wieś niedaleko Jeleniej Góry) w 1852 r.
Zachełmie is village situated in the Karkonosze Mountains, southwards to Jelenia Góra. The population of Zachełmie could not get by only from farming. The location of the village and its soil were insufficient for the development of agriculture. The inhabitants of this small village, 634 persons in 1852, belonged to the poorest additional category of the countrymen. They tried to find other additional sources to survive. That was not easy in the time of decline of traditional linen weaving. More in the respect of demographic structure than the social one the population of Zachełmie was alike the structure of inhobitants of two other Lower Silesian villages searched so far. Zachełmie families were rather small. Approximately 2,0 children with parents lived there, and if we consider families with children the avarage was 2,5. A basic family consisted of 4,0 persons. 76,1% of Zachełmie families were composed of two generations (parents and children). There were very few families of one generation (17,9) and of three generates (5,3%). Economic families were also small (approx 3,8 persons). Almost 96% of economic family members were the part of basic family. Relatives (2,8%) and strangers (1,6%) were secondary in the structure of an economic family. (original abstract)
