Transport policy of the European Union focuses on activities involving issues such as completion of the internal market, ensure sustainable development, the development of transport networks in Europe, the effective use of space that is available, to improve the safety of the carriage of passengers and goods and promotion of joint initiatives in this sphere on the international scene. One of the main tools for implementing these activities is the concept of the trans- European transport network (TEN-T), which was in the 1980s. In the 20th century, in parallel with the design of the single market. According to the assumptions in the network TEN-T: transport infrastructure (road, rail and inland waterways, seaports, ports supporting inland waterway transport and other interconnection points), traffic management systems and positioning and navigation systems, including the necessary technical installations and information and telecommunications systems, whose purpose is to ensure the harmonious operation of the network and efficient traffic management. The article presents the different stages of planning and the development of the trans-European transport network focusing on the latest findings in March 2012. According to them the home network connects 86 major nodes of roads and railway lines, 37 airports critical transport will have connections with the railway lines leading to the main European metropolises. In addition, approx. 15 000 km of railway lines pass adaptations so that it will be possible to develop the high-speed rise also 35 cross-border projects aimed at reducing the congestion of European transport. Described are also a source of funding for these projects, both existing and new, outstanding in the field goals (Connecting Europe Facility).(author's abstract)
