China and Developing Countries in Contemporary Global Processes

As the majority of our globe resides in developing countries, there is an urgent need to reassess their position in international political economy (IPE) from the perspective of contemporary global financial and commerce events. In observing the spectrum of major actors in globalization processes, one could not help but notice that there is significant impact being made by dynamism of emerging and developing economies. The matter of how these countries, with China seemingly at the helm, speedily transitioned from being exporters of primary products to being key global players, and the extent to which they influence contemporary IPE, is more frequently being debated and is the main question this article seeks to examine. Because of many prevailing socio-political and economic shared characteristics, the concept of emerging economy, as used in this paper, refers to observed dynamic tendency towards open market reform processes of volatile, yet rapidly developing economies in Asia, Africa and Latin America. It is used interchangeably with the term "developing economy", because sooner or later more of the developing section of our globe will inevitably earn their place among dynamically emerging economic entities.
