Jednym z najbardziej znanych orędowników równości w amerykańskim prawie publicznym był John F. Kennedy. Mówił o niej w różnym kontekście: "równego traktowania" (i nieróżnicowania ze względu na rasę, religię, pochodzenie i płeć), "równych szans" oraz "słuszności". Równość określał jako kategorię "moralną". Poniższy tekst jest omówieniem oddziaływania zasady równości na cztery wybrane sfery prawa publicznego będące przedmiotem zainteresowań i działań Kennedy'ego. (fragment tekstu)

This article is about John F. Kennedy's views on the principle of equality, as it affects the four selected areas of public law: 1) the federal system with its method of U.S. presidential elections; 2) U.S. immigration law; 3) federal tax law; 4) equal pay legislation with its principle of equal pay for comparable work, irrespective of sex. Kennedy spoke about equality, one of the basic principles of the American constitutional system, in the context of "equal treatment" (that may not be denied on account of race, religion, nationality origin and sex), "equal opportunities", and "fairness". In his opinion equality was also a moral issue. His views had a great impact on U.S. federal legislation, e.g. the Equal Pay Act of 1963 or the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 that abolished the national origins quota system enacted in 1924.
