Abstrakty

Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie mało znanej teorii konfliktu autorstwa Johna W. Burtona, która pozwala lepiej zrozumieć konflikty w globalnym świecie. Choć Burton umarł kilka lat temu, a zręby swojej teorii formułował w latach 70. i 80., jego idee dotyczące zrozumienia procesu biologiczno-społeczno-ekonomicznego, jaki stanowi konflikt, mogą mieć dzisiaj szczególne znaczenie. Wobec narastającego napięcia na Bliskim Wschodzie oraz politycznie trudnego sporu pomiędzy Ukrainą a Rosją teoria australijskiego dyplomaty nabiera nowego znaczenia, pozwalając nie tylko na zrozumienie tych konfliktów, ale i wskazanie nowych sposobów ich rozwiązywania. Podstawową tezą artykułu jest twierdzenie, że odwołująca się do biologii, socjologii i polityki teoria Burtona, choć w wielu punktach idealistyczna, pozwala lepiej zrozumieć konflikty i wojny XXI w. The main objective of this paper is to familiarize Polish readers with the theory of conflict by John W. Burton. Although the Australian diplomat developed his concept in the 70's and 80's of XX century, his ideas let us better understand contemporary conflicts, such as the ones in the Middle East and between Ukraine and Russia. The main thesis of the article is the assumption that Burton's theory, by referring to biology, sociology, and political sciences, though in many points idealistic, might be very productive in recognizing the roots of serious contemporary conflict in the world, analyzing the processes, and finding methods of resolution which are, so far, unknown.
