Financial Liquidity of Wood Industry Enterprises in Poland 2006-2012

The aim of this study is to present the determinants and diversity of financial liquidity of wood industry enterprises in Poland. The analysis uses statistical data of the Central Statistical Office from the years 2006-2012 relating to enterprises in the sector of manufacture of wood and products of wood, cork (except for furniture); manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials (division 16 of the manufacturing section). The conducted analyses indicate that wood industry enterprises in Poland in 2006-2012 generally had the ability to meet their current liabilities. Current liquidity was there at a high level (1.4-1.6), which has allowed to evaluate positively the level of this indicator in relation to the volume of theoretically earned finances. However, when considering the quick ratio, it has been noted that most of the years remained at a level significantly lower than the standard (<1.0), which was mainly due to a relatively high level of inventories in this sector. From the perspective of the length of the working capital cycle and the cycles of the components of this capital, the evaluation of financial liquidity in the industry is not entirely unequivocal, especially when taking into account the tendencies to change. Research shows that inventory cycles and cycles of receivables lengthen, which at a relatively constant length of the liabilities cycle, is reflected in the extension of the cash conversion cycle. This means deterioration of liquidity, since the invested in the business resources return to the enterprises slower and slower(original abstract)
