Recently the Arctic has gained political and economic attention especially due to climate change. Since the beginning of the 21st century also the Canadian's government has moved attention to this region placing it high on its agenda. The "Arctic sovereignty" became a key phrase in the political discourse and the Arctic people of Canada gained in importance as a guardian of Canadian sovereignty in the region. Since 1970s the northern communities in Canada have confronted political, social, environmental and economic transformations. This article analyses responses to challenges the Arctic Aboriginal people have encountered. (original abstract)

W związku z ociepleniem się klimatu, w ostatnich latach, wzrosło znaczenie polityczne i ekonomiczne Arktyki. Także rząd Kanady traktuje ten region priorytetowo, podkreślając znaczenie ludności rdzennej w utrzymaniu suwerennej władzy nad tym terytorium. Od lat siedemdziesiątych mieszkańcy Arktyki przechodzą polityczne, społeczne i ekonomiczne przemiany w zmieniającym się środowisku naturalnym. Artykuł ten analizuje działania podejmowane przez ludność rdzenną Arktyki w odpowiedzi na wyzwania, których współcześnie doświadczają. (abstrakt oryginalny)
