Abstrakty

Cet article étudie dans quelle mesure l'appartenance à la zone EURO a induit une dynamique d'intégration commerciale diff érente des PECO. L'exploitation de la base CEPII-BACI permet de tirer trois principaux enseignements. Tout d'abord, jusqu'à la crise fi nancière de 2008, l'augmentation du commerce bilatéral au sein de l'UE est essentiellement liée à l'accroissement des fl ux entre les 11 pays fondateurs de la zone EURO. Ensuite, l'intégration commerciale de ce groupe repose essentiellement sur la marge intensive et seuls les petits pays situés à la périphérie de l'UEM sont caractérisés par une marge extensive signifi cative. Enfi n, les PECO sont caractérisés par une plus forte importance de la marge extensive du commerce.(abstrakt oryginalny)

This paper investigates to what extent euro area membership affected the differing dynamics of trade integration for CEE economies during the period 1997-2009. Using the CEPII-BACI database, we get three main results. First, until the recent financial crisis of 2008, most of the increase in bilateral trade within the European Union was mainly due to increased flows between the 11 founding Eurozone members. Second, bilateral trade between Eurozone countries occurs mainly at the intensive margin, and only smaller countries at the periphery of the EMU are characterized by a significant extensive margin. Third, in contrast, East European countries are characterized by the greater importance of the extensive margin.(original abstract)
