This paper analyzes land cover changes at a small scale with respect to the environmental and socio - economic characteristics in five model municipalities. The data used included 1:50,000 Soviet topographic maps (1976 - 1989), recent fine scale satellite images from the Google Earth, natural geoecosystems data and 1:10,000 cadastral maps which provide land use structure data. The model areas selected for our study are rural and situated in different parts of Ukrainian Carpathians. A common tendency for four of five model areas is an increase in the area with forest or shrubland owing to the abandonment of former agricultural lands. The results of statistical analysis showed that land use type, landform, location within an ecotone and slope inclination have the most significant influence on the occurrence of secondary succession. At the same time, transport infrastructure parameters have no essential influence on recent land cover changes. (original abstract)
Latin American cities are amongst those with the highest rates of urbanization in the world. This process has involved their territorial expansion as well as the densification of some of its neighborhoods, in mainly central areas. This is the case of the city of Santiago del Estero (Argentina) that increased its population by 33% between 1991 and 2010 with the consequent transformations of the local space. In this context, this study analyzes the evolution of vegetated areas and densification of the central area of the city using satellite data. We analyzed two indices: normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and Urban Index (UI) time-series data, for the 1992-2011 year period, using the Google Earth Engine for processing Landsat 5 TM images. We found that the NDVI showed a decreasing trend in the timelapse under consideration, while the UI performance registered the opposite trend. The mean NDVI decreased from 0.161 (1992) to 0.103 (2011) while the UI mean increased from 0.003 to 0.036 in the same timelapse. Further, the NDVI has a strong negative correlation with UI (R-squared = -0.862). The results are consistent with the census information that recorded an important demographic and housing growth for the entire city in this period(original abstract)
Variance in the cost method of valuation as caused by certain variables is objectionable in the profession of estate surveying and valuation at both local and international best practices. The study aimed at determining the variables for the variance in the application of the cost method of valuation for estate surveying and valuation practice in Uyo. The sample of the population used for the research comprised 110 estate surveyors in Uyo. The survey method was used for the research. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using standard deviation and analysis of variance (ANOVA). The findings showed that depreciation rates of σ2 =113.974 and σ = 10.676 were over 60% of the total variance of values among estate surveyors and valuers. The construction rates and errors in manual measurements and computation of areas, volumes and dimensions showed σ2 = 6.004 and σ = 2.4503, which accounted for 15% of total variance. The study recommends the use of a regional-based scientific approach to measure depreciation for consistency and high precision. Automated techniques, such as GPS, AutoCAD, Google Earth pro, are recommended to minimize variance in measurements. (original abstract)
Dane do obliczenia wskaźników pochodzą z BDL-GUS i Google Earth. Wyniki analiz wskazały, że największy stopień urban sprawl obserwuje się obszarze miejskim Łodzi, a każde z trzech analizowanych miast cechuje się innym profilem sprawlu(abstrakt oryginalny)
Research background: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented disruptions to the global tourism industry, resulting in significant impacts on both human and economic activities. Travel restrictions, border closures, and quarantine measures have led to a sharp decline in tourism demand, causing businesses to shut down, jobs to be lost, and economies to suffer. Purpose of the article: This study aims to examine the correlation and causal relationship between real-time mobility data and statistical data on tourism, specifically tourism over-nights, across eleven European countries during the first 14 months of the pandemic. We analyzed the short longitudinal connections between two dimensions of tourism and related activities. Methods: Our method is to use Google and Apple's observational data to link with tourism statistical data, enabling the development of early predictive models and econometric models for tourism overnights (or other tourism indices). This approach leverages the more timely and more reliable mobility data from Google and Apple, which is published with less delay than tourism statistical data. Findings & value added: Our findings indicate statistically significant correlations between specific mobility dimensions, such as recreation and retail, parks, and tourism statistical data, but poor or insignificant relations with workplace and transit dimensions. We have identified that leisure and recreation have a much stronger influence on tourism than the domestic and routine-named dimensions. Additionally, our neural network analysis revealed that Google Mobility Parks and Google Mobility Retail & Recreation are the best predictors for tourism, while Apple Driving and Apple Walking also show significant correlations with tourism data. The main added value of our research is that it combines observational data with statistical data, demonstrates that Google and Apple location data can be used to model tourism phe-nomena, and identifies specific methods to determine the extent, direction, and intensity of the relationship between mobility and tourism flows.(original abstract)

Content available remote Local Development Through Self-Help : Some Tunisian Case Studies
100%
Through revolting on the 14 of January 2011, Tunisians showed their rejection of the political, economic and social system. In fact, the political system was locked since their independence in 1956 and especially during the presidency of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali (1987-2011). Nevertheless, some local development systems or local populations used their entrepreneurship and have established an "anti-system" which marks their response to the system imposed by the State. Therefore, in this paper we have chosen to consider two cases of local development through self-help. The first case concerns agriculture and will be illustrated by Ghannouch, north of the town of Gabes. The second case will concern fishing and will be demonstrated in the Kerkennah islands in the Mediterranean Sea, in front of the city of Sfax. The Ghannouchis faced the narrowness of their agricultural land, and the Kerkennians faced the narrowness of their marine horizon. The Ghannouchis intensified their agriculture through jumping and land reclamation to gain new areas away from their essential space. Nevertheless, the Kerkennians remained closely linked to fishing with considerable efforts to pursue fishing campaigns in the Gulf of Gabes and away from their seas. These results are verified by field surveys and confirmed by diachronic images from Google Earth.(original abstract)
