Does the Social Justice Cost? Polemics on the Book "Efficiency and Justice"

Abstrakty
In the article, the issue of relationship between equality and efficiency is raised Traditionally, the economists believe that this is a dramatic problem, one of the major dilemmas of economic policy. The classical approach is the well-known Kuznets Law which recognizes that, at a low level of development, inequalities tend to increase, and it is only when a certain income level has been reached that such tendencies are being reversed. Similar has been the view of Arthur Lewis who believed that a rising inequality was the condition of a high rate of accumulation. In Poland, there is a quite common belief at present that its economy has not yet passed the phase of primary accumulation of capital, in which the concentration of wealth with a small group of population is a condition of rapid growth. The author doesn't agree with that view. In his opinion, Poland has already reached a middle level of development, and as far as the income inequality is concerned it has been already ahead of its partners from the Vysehrad group as well as of most economies of Western Europe. It is also the concern with the human capital that lets one oppose the extreme inequalities which are conductive to exclude a considerable part of that capital from the productive influence.
