Abstrakty

Wiele osób podkreśla wyjątkową niestabilność wyników i warunków rynku ubezpieczeń satelitarnych - wszystko może się zmienić praktycznie w przeciągu chwili. Warto również sprawdzić, czy ten rynek charakteryzuje się także cyklicznością. Cykl ubezpieczeniowy to powtarzająca się seria następujących po sobie faz, przez które przechodzi rynek. Sekwencje rynku "miękkiego" oraz "twardego" można zaobserwować między innymi w stawkach, rentowności czy pojemności ubezpieczeniowej. Pobieżna analiza historycznych wyników rynku ubezpieczeń satelitarnych pokazuje, że doświadczył on rozkwitu i kryzysu - lepszych i gorszych czasów. Wydaje się nawet, że ten rynek przeszedł fazę rynku "miękkiego" i "twardego", zatem być może występuje tam cykl. Jednakże niewiadomo, które z parametrów rynku (pojemność, stopy składek czy wynik) podlegają cyklicznym wahaniom. Celem tego artykułu jest przeprowadzenie rygorystycznej analizy rynku ubezpieczeń satelitarnych i ustalenie, czy charakteryzuje go zmienność, cykliczność, czy też jednocześnie zmienność i cykliczność. Many people emphasize extreme volatility of the satellite insurance market - its trend may change in an instant. However, it is worth to verify if the market is also cyclical in nature - but this requires looking at changes in the long term. The underwriting cycle refers to a repetitive series of phases that insurance markets go through. The sequence of "hard" and "soft" markets may be observed in prices, profitability, and supply (capacity) for insurance. A cursory analysis of the results of the satellite insurance market through its history shows that it experienced crises and booms, better and worse times.lt appears to have gone through repetitive sequences of "hard" and "soft" markets, therefore, a cycle might be observed. However, it is unknown which specific market parameters (e.g., capacity, rates, underwriting results) are subject to cyclical fluctuations. The purpose of this paper is to provide a rigorous analysis of the satellite insurance market to determine whether it is just volatile by nature, cyclical or both volatile and cyclical.
