Abstrakty
The implications of the rapid growth of U.S. electronic commerce are vast and far-reaching for consumers and businesses. The whole face of modern commerce is changing at a very rapid rate. Efficiences are being gained through adaption of the Internet to facilitate exchange of knowledge rapidly and to conduct business directly without intermediaries that do not add value to the good/service. Accounting, the language of business, must adapt to develop and audit e-commerce systems and to translate transactions into verifiable results. Accountants must adapt their personal skill sets accordingly to be able to aid business with the growth of e-commerce. Current state/local sales tax systems do not effectively capture e-commerce sales to consumers and national solutions are being discussed/debated to address this problem. The IRS is adapting its filing systems and databases to a modern electronic format and marketing taxpayers to adapt their filing practices from paper to e-file. The rapid growth in e-commerce in the U.S.A. has many implications and the modern business and businessperson must adapt or be left behind. (fragment of text)
