Spośród najpopularniejszych szkół promujących związek logistyki z łańcuchem dostaw można wymienić np. "szkołę zarządzania punktami styku", która podkreśla rolę powiązań między różnymi obszarami funkcjonalnymi w łańcuchu dostaw. Koncentruje się ona na próbie lepszego zarządzania punktami styku w celu osiągnięcia przewagi konkurencyjnej. Zwolennicy szkoły informacyjnej, bądź integracyjnej punkt ciężkości przenoszą na inne założenia.
